Upspear

Upspear is a new application to fully manage the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), from a PC. It’s thought for PSPs with firmware 1.50, at least for the moment. Support for other firmwares may be added in the future, if you think you need it, convince me :).

At the moment you can:

  • Install new homebrews in a very simple way.
  • See the homebrews you have installed, rename and delete them.
  • Reorder installed homebrews to your liking.
  • See your savegames and delete the ones you don’t need anymore.
  • Backup your savegames to zip-compressed files on your PC.
  • Hide/unhide “Corrupt data” icons or push them to the bottom of the list.
  • Kxploit a 1.0 eboot.pbp, making it work under 1.5 firmwares.
  • Identify useless folders in psp/game.
  • View the contents of a .SFO format file (i. e.: param.sfo).
  • See information about the memory stick.

Upspear also has the following features:

  • No spyware, adware or any other form of malware.
  • No registry bloat, settings are saved in files within the user directory. No lost settings after a fresh installation.
  • No awkward setup/installer, no system changes, system bloat and trash.

All these functions can be performed through the nice graphical interface the program has. The program itself is in English, but it uses GNU gettext, which means that it can be easily translated in other languages. At the moment only an Italian translation is available, but anybody can submit more translations, see the “Contributing” section below if you’re interested.

Upspear is a project hosted by Gna!, and you can find its homepage at http://home.gna.org/upspear/. There you will find the latest releases, together with Upspear’s Subversion repository, as well as some mailing lists which you can join to talk with other users and with the developers.
